Each year since 1947 the US Mint releases a set of all coins produced for circulation during that year in a package called a
U.S. Mint Set.
These are offical Mint sets and are specially packaged by the U.S. goverment for sale to collectors.
They contain uncirculated specims of each years coins for every denomination issued from each mint. These make great Birthday, Anniversary, Graduation, or other Special Occasion Gifts.
These sets usually contained the cent, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar and sometimes the dollar (if one was made) from each of the mints that made any for that year. These included coins from the Philadelphia, Denver & San Francisco mints. Unlike the Proof sets, mint sets are normal coins intended for circulation and are not minted with any special considerstion for quality. Sets from 1947 through 1958 contain two examples of each regular issue coin. No official sets were produced in 1950, 1982 or 1983.
