1892 to 1916 Barber Quarters

The Barber Quarter is so named for its designer, Charles E. Barber, who was the Chief Engraver at the Mint. The first Barber Quarters were struck in 1892. Over 265 million pieces were struck during the next twenty-five years.

What Barber did accomplish with his new dime was to design and place into production a coin that would meet the striking requirements of modern, high-speed coin presses.

The Barber Quarter shows a bust of Liberty similar in style to that of the Morgan Dollar but facing right. She is wearing a Liberty cap with a laurel wreath, and a ribbon ties her hair in the back of her neck. IN GOD WE TRUST appears above her head.

Barber Quarter are, for the most part, a completeable set of coins with no significant date or mintmark rarities, except for the 1901-S. The 1896-S and 1913-S are rare, but even these are obtainable at a price.

1912 Barber Quarter 1912 Barber Quarter

This 1912 Barber Quarter recently sold on eBay for only $9.00 and had just 1 bidder

The series is commonly collected by beginners in good to very good grades. The best place to purchase Barber Quarter is at eBay. Most of these coins are expensive in the better grades and rare years especially the early years of issue. However, if you just want one or two for your collection look for Barber Dimes in the grades of good, very good or better. You should be able to find many nice specimens for your collection in the $10.00 or less range.
