Caterpillar Tractor Co. Advertising Collectibles!

In 1890 Benjamin Holt and Daniel Best experimented with various forms of steam tractors for use in farming. They did so separately, with separate companies.

The Holt Manufacturing Company and the C. L. Best Tractor Co. merge to form Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1925.

Benjamin Holt invented the "caterpillar" tractor. Tractors with wheels got stuck in soft soil. Benjamin invented a tractor that moved on tracks instead of wheels. The tracks would not sink in sandy soil or mud.

By 1986 the Caterpillar Tractor Co. changes its name to Caterpillar Inc. A more accurate reflection of Caterpillar's growing diversity. Today they are know simply as "Cat".
